My name is Martina and I’m a tailor and embroidery artist.
Working with a needle and a thread has always been my goal and I was playing with fabrics and scraps for as long I can remember. When I was sixteen I asked my parents to buy me a sewing machine for my birthday and since then I experimented with garments in every possible way.
After high school I decided to get a degree in Fashion Design at Politecnico di Milano and I soon realised that designing a garment wasn’t enough for me, I had to make it from scratch.
Once I got my bachelor’s degree, I put together my passion for Opera and my obsession with dressmaking and I entered Teatro alla Scala Academy, where I learned how to create historical garments for the theatre.
After a few months working with wedding dresses and costumes for ballet, I started taking embroidery classes and there I found my greatest passion.
Creating any shape just with a needle and a thread was such a magical experience to me, that I decided to make it my job, but, as often happens, life had other plans.
I got an internship at Ermenegildo Zegna and, since I was always curious about the making of a tailored suit, I gave it a go.
A few years went by and embroidery found a way to enter in my life once again when I started embroidering buttonholes and initials for tailored suits and coats.
As cathartic as it was, I felt like I could do so much more, so I left that world to find myself working in fashion, where I started customising and repairing garments for clients. Every situation was different and that gave me so much creative freedom that I felt like I really found the right place.
After having so many amazing people in my life that taught me everything I know, I decided that I could try and share that knowledge, as much as I can and that’s why I came up with Embroiderly.
